Boundary Waters: 6" Hand-Forged Chef Knife, W-2 Steel
Friends, a good knife is one of the few honest tools left in the modern kitchen. It has no battery, no app, and no firmware update. It's a piece of steel, a piece of wood, and a person who cared enough to put them together. Boundary Waters is exactly that, and it happens to be the color of a Minnesota lake on a day you'd call in sick for.
The blade is W-2 high-carbon steel, a classic that takes a ferocious edge and comes back to it without a fuss when you touch it up on a stone. It has an oil-etched, polished finish that shows off the swirling, cloudy patterns in the steel. Think of it as the grain of a fine board, but in metal.
The handle is dyed maple burl, and burl is nature's way of saying "I wasn't going to grow straight, and you can't make me." The grain twists and swirls in deep blues and teals, and no two pieces are alike. Another knife may be close, but it will never have this handle.
At 6" of blade and 10" overall, it's nimble enough for slicing, dicing, trimming, and herbs, and sturdy enough that you'll reach for it before anything else in the drawer.
Specifications
Steel: W-2 high-carbon
Finish: oil-etched and polished
Blade length: 6"
Overall length: 10"
Handle: dyed maple burl
Handmade in Minnesota
Care
W-2 is a carbon steel, so it will develop a patina with use. The blade will darken over time, which is normal and a sign of a knife that's doing its job. Hand wash it, dry it right away, and wipe on a little food-safe oil now and then. And please, for the love of all that is holy, keep it out of the dishwasher.
Because every knife is handmade, you'll receive the exact knife shown in the photos.
